I appreciate that you are being supportive, but she did repeatedly refer to her son as a boy and as he. It seems like the mere fact that he has a Barbie and holds another guys hand makes you think he is non-binary - which is just perpetuating old gender norms and stereotypes with the assumption. My take-away was that he was very much a boy - who just happened to do what made him happy and comfortable rather than what is coded for a male.
