I was thinking just yesterday about phrases like, “I’d like to hit that.” Aggressive, maybe even abusive and not about doing something mutually enjoyable with another person but rather about acting on a disembodied part. Words do hold a lot of power and I think it’s a great idea to consider what we are actually conveying when using them. Another one that really bothers me is using “fucked” to mean that something bad happened. I have no problem with that word in general — in fact it’s one of my favorites, but in that context, where you are equating something that should be enjoyable and participatory with something negative that happens to one person by the other, well….. it’s just kind of icky!
