Mesolithic foragers living in settlements aren’t a stand-in for hundreds of thousands of years of nomadic Paleolithic hunter-gatherers; Western Europeans aren’t a stand-in for Africans or Asians, murder rates in certain cities aren’t a stand-in for a true picture of violence in the rest of the nation, much less the continent or the rest of the world; tiny data samples aren’t a stand-in for larger dynamics, and having a narrative that appeals to you isn’t a stand-in for actually understanding the larger history and sociology of a period in a specific place.

It's amazing to me that anyone, much less a Harvard professor (of psychology, but still) would ever imagine that they are and write a book based on that.
