You are right that that was a broad generalization and such things probably don’t actually help, but they are born out of frustration for a society that has such strict gender rules and roles which don’t really serve anyone. Although they have eased some in the past 20 years, not nearly enough. A lot of society does still reinforce “the man box” and that negatively impacts my life on a pretty much daily basis, particularly as a woman on the internet.

I was speaking to her trying to hold most men to a standard they can’t comprehend. That was pretty much my point. I’m in relationship with men who can comprehend it, but those who can’t frustrate the hell out of me because they’ve been made that way by the stupid society. Is that a productive way to think? I don’t know, but it seems to me like the alternative is to blame each one personally — something I’d prefer not to do.
